About Martha McKenna
Martha McKenna is the founder of McKenna Media, mother of two fun daughters and an involved resident of Baltimore City. Before launching McKenna Media, Martha spent six years as a partner in McKenna Pihlaja, a successful media consulting firm based in Washington D.C. with the talented Jen Pihlaja.
After a decade of work with EMILY’s List, Martha McKenna started as the political director at the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee (DSCC) under Senator Chuck Schumer in 2007 and stayed through the 2010 cycle. During the 2012, 2014 and 2018 cycles, she ran the DSCC’s Independent Expenditure operation, helping Democratic Senate candidates win on tough terrain.
She is a co-founder of Emerge Maryland, an organization dedicated to recruiting and training Democratic women to run for state and local office in Maryland, and a member of the Board of American Woman, the 501c4 arm of EMILY’s List. Martha earned a B.A. in political science from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, an M.S. in Public Policy from the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University in New Jersey, and her M.B.A. from the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University.
